Does Knee and Hip Pain Slow You Down

This post was sponsored by DePuy Synthes as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

A few years ago, I began to experience excruciating pain in my knees.  It was so bad that it was affecting everything I did in and outside the home. My home has many stairs and I could barely get up and down them to do my routine household chores.

I missed being able to enjoy many of the activities I was use to doing all of the time.  I was so active, and now I felt stagnant.  My husband and I were doing all kinds of activities together. Knee pain was slowing me down and putting a halt on many of the activities I use to enjoy doing, such as krav maga, aerobics and other outdoor activities.  I even found myself struggling to get my walking in on many days due to knee and joint pain.  I use to love gardening and that had to stop too, because I couldn't kneel to tend it. It got to the point that my knee pain was effecting not only my activities, but my mood too.  I would get upset because I couldn't do what I wanted to do, the way I use to do it. It made me irritable and depressed.

My husband convinced me to visit my orthopedic doctor because he knew the pain was unbearable and didn't like seeing me in pain.  He didn't like the fact that I was so irritable and lethargic.  After having tests and an MRI done, it was determined that I have arthritis.  With my doctor, I have been able to get the help I need to make my pain more bearable and get me moving more. I still have my off days, but now they are fewer and more tolerable.  I still can't do all of the things I would like to, but I am slowly getting there.  I am especially happy that I am able to get up and down the stairs with more ease and I am even getting my walks in more often.

If you are having immobility, knee or hip pain, don't suffer alone. Hit Play and find a physician in your area that you can talk to about your symptoms, like I did.   There are many solutions available, including joint replacement surgery.

  1. I don’t have any knee pain yet, but my right knee always seems to pop. It doesn’t hurt but I’m afraid it might need some work done in the future.
