Tips for Securing Your Home During the Holidays

The holidays are slowly approaching and while it does mean a lot of fun and activities to attend, it also means that your house should also be safe and secure while you’re gone. The best way to keep your belongings and your loved ones safe is by installing a proper alarm system. However there are other things you can do as well besides just that idea. Below are some examples that will give you and your family a piece of mind while you enjoy the seasons greetings.

  1. Let Your Neighbors Know Your Plans-If you are planning on taking a long road trip to visit family during the holiday season, be sure to let a trusted neighbor know of your itinerary. Ask your neighbor to keep an eye on your home and report to you with any unusual activity. You’ll want to make sure that your neighbor can also help clear snow or pick up any packages you have while you are always as well so it makes it look like you are home. This helps steer clear of potential burglars that may be lurking near. Also, it might not be a bad idea to add a motion sensor light to help you control your lights as well.

  1. Install A Proper Home Security System - It can be overwhelming to try and find the right home security system for you and your family. A trust and reliable system is what all you want to give you a piece of mind while you are away. Alpha Fire & Security Systems is the company not only to help you install your camera properly but also know that it will ensure it’s best to keep you alert and up to date with what is going on inside and outside your house. They also provide only the most innovative and high quality products and services not just for your home but also businesses as well. They are the ones to help inspect, service or upgrade your old security system that you’ll learn to trust and appreciate year after year. As far as your security system goes there are several choices to choose from including high definition surveillance cameras, touch screen services and voice activated burglar alarm systems. To monitor the system, the company works with a U. L. Listed Central Station tp give you 24/7 monitoring and surveillance. Their systems are one of the highest definition systems that are available on the market today.

  1. Keep All Windows Locked - While it may be tempting to think that only the bottom windows need to be locked at all times, I would argue that all windows should be locked, especially when you are away. Although it may seem like it wouldn’t happen to you, burglars can climb to 2 story windows by standing on tree branches or other items around your home to get in if the windows on the bottom level are locked.

  1. Add Diversion Decor - A friend recently put a huge dog bowl and chew toy in her home to make it look like they had a large dog in the home. If a burglar tries to get near your back door and see the bowl, it might defer them from entering because they don’t want to wake the dog up. If you can’t borrow any of these, add a leash and collar near the front of your door as well or old work boots that look like they just came from being outside. Whatever your idea of deception could be to make sure the burglar might skip your house is key.

  1. Don’t Share On Social Media- It may be tempting to share about your amazing vacation on social media such as Instagram or Facebook but that is another tack that burglars will use to know that you won’t be home. Only share your location with a few trusted individuals and friends who will keep an eye out on your home. Of course if you really are tempted to share pictures, do so when you get back home and you are safe and well rested to do so. Nothing would be worse then coming back after a vacation to realize that all of your christmas gifts and treasures are missing because of something so simple.
