Where do you get your inspiration? What makes you want to excel or succeed? Everyone has that little inner person that wants to be the best at what they do. That inner ego that wants to be successful at life. Yet, not all of us listen to it. I know I don't. I often wonder, what makes a successful person different from someone who often fails? Both start out wanting something. Both begin the process of attaining their goal. Yet, one slacks off, while the other goes on to succeed.
Some people will say, maybe they wanted it more. Did they? Maybe they had more heart. Is that true? Maybe they had all their ducks in a row and set a plan, stuck to it and didn't allow distractions to get in their way. Hmm, I think we may be getting closer to the answer. Or are we?
The facts are that 92% of people who set a goal, don't achieve it. 92 percent! That is a crazy amount!
Why do you think this is such a high number?
Have you ever been told to set SMART goals? When you set goals to be successful they should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Sensitive.
Have you ever done research to see how to structure your goal? Do you really know how to achieve it, or do you just blindly say I am going to do this? Believe it or not, there are steps to achieving the goal you are striving to achieve. There are many books on the market that teach you ways to accomplish your goals. Just remember, achieving a goal is hard work. It isn't going to be handed to you. I will be the first to tell you that it is not going to be easy. You have to work at it.
Of course, you have to be committed to the goal. You can't just quit every time you fail or beat yourself up every time you do. Face your failures, write them down, create a strategy to conquer them. But don't give up. Set short term goals. Walk before you run.
At the end of each day, think about what you did to make your goal more of a reality. Think of things that almost made you stumble and things that pushed you further toward success. Keep them in a mental diary in your head and bring them out when you feel yourself slipping. Tell yourself you are worth that goal you set out to achieve and nothing is going to stop you from accomplishing it.
Those who fail to plan, can plan to fail. You have to have a plan for everything. Just as I said in the paragraph before. You have to plan for all the ups and downs. Think of things that made you fail in the past and things that made you succeed. I know personally that when I am dieting, I have to avoid certain places that tempt me to fail. I avoid them like a plague. When I do slip, I brush myself off and start over. That is OK once in a great while, but if I continue to slip, am I really serious or did I really plan properly? Probably not.
Sometimes we can overwhelm ourselves with too many goals. Be realistic about the goals you set. Keep them reachable. Small simple goals are easier to attain than ridiculous ones. You aren't gonna run a marathon if you have never even run a 5k. Don't be in a hurry to reach your goal. Reach it properly and at a steady pace.
Find motivation inside yourself, in others, in any way you can. Does music motivate you? Maybe watching videos of people succeeding or listening to someone who has a strong sense of self that can guide you toward that goal are what work for you. Whatever it is, do it! Write yourself notes, write yourself words of encouragement. Make a self motivation jar and write down phrases or words that will encourage you when you are feeling you can't go on. Use trigger words that jar your senses. Think of the reason you started your journey.
You can reach your goal. Don't intimidate yourself. We can all be our own worse enemy at times. Maybe we should start being our own best friend instead. You are worth it. Remind yourself of that often. Make yourself happy.
