Highlights And The High-Life: Road Tripping Down The East Coast

A road trip is one of the greatest experiences you can have in life, you just throw your luggage in the trunk, put the pedal to the metal, and experience the open road, and your mind soaking in, not just the sights, but the cultures as you pass them. The east coast of America is one of those road trips that everybody talks about, but, when you're trying to get your experience of the open road, while also having a bit of an adventure, where can you go?

Baltimore, Maryland

Far from it just being the backdrop to The Wire, Baltimore is home to some of the most wonderful harbor life. In addition to this, why don't you visit the National Aquarium, or head over to Fort McHenry, and at the same time, get your fill of crab cakes!

Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Home to one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, the Portland Head Lighthouse stands as a pillar of beauty against the crashing waves. If this is not your thing, head over to the museum in Fort Williams Park to learn about how this came to be.

Kitty Hawk, North Carolina

If culture isn't on your agenda, you can stop off in North Carolina, to hit up the OB-Xscape rooms, and head to the Jockey's Ridge state park. Or, if you are looking to stop over, there are numerous opportunities for lodging in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and head to the Trio Wine Beer and Cheese retailer to sample some of the liquid delights, either on the premises or in the comfort of your hotel room.

Charleston, South Carolina

A town vibrant with life, Charleston has an endless amount of restaurants and cocktail bars. If you're looking for an authentic speakeasy vibe, The Gin Joint offers decent cocktails that aren't heavy on your wallet (or your stomach)!

Amelia Island, Florida

If socializing is too much for you at this point, stop over in Amelia Island and relax on the sandy beaches. Don't forget, this barrier island has numerous wildlife to gaze upon, from sea turtles to sharks, and even a dazzling array of colorful peacocks.

Newport, Rhode Island

Looking for a taste of the high life? You can head to the Newport Mansions for a tour by the Preservation Society of Newport County. The tour shows the home and the beautiful gardens and even begins at the servants’ entrance, giving you a unique perspective of the high life. How the other half live, eh?

Alexandria, Virginia

Home to one of the “great streets” of America, King Street, Alexandria has numerous boutiques, restaurants, not to mention the most wonderful people. When you're looking for a way to relax, and take it all in, Alexandria is one of the best ways to take stock. The east coast is an adventure all in itself, and while most budding road trippers go down Route 66, have consideration for the east coast. If you're looking to open your mind to the beautiful sights, while also getting your fill of American culture, the east coast has so much for you to do, and even more!
