Graduation Party Ideas To Save You Time and Money

It's graduation season and with all of the planning you may have with preparing for new schools and colleges, I thought it would be a great idea to find easy ways to help you decorate and save time!

Party planning can be stressful, but if you plan your decorations properly, by including things that save time and money, you can stress less and enjoy yourself when the big day comes.

One of the greatest and newest decorating ideas that I was introduced to at New York Toy Fair is the ZURU Bunch o Balloons Self Sealing Party Balloons.  This genius invention inflates, ties and strings 40 balloons in 40 seconds!  Yes, 40 seconds!  No more sitting around and blowing up balloons for hours until your lungs hurt!

Using your child's tassel, school colors and a few photos, you can create the perfect centerpiece for your party. Keep your child's yearbook nearby with different colored pens so that guests and sign it.

Simple desserts

Simple desserts, like these adorable graduation caps, can be made quickly and refrigerated for use later.  This will allow you to make them ahead of time.  I made this recipe when my nephew graduated High School and it was a big hit.  I used his school colors for the mini candy cap button and licorice tassel.

Yummy Finger Foods

People love to eat with their hands and having simple finger foods at your party allows people to move around freely.

These simple Smoked Pork Meatballs from Celebrity Chef Melissa Cookston's award winning cookbook, Smokin' in the Boys' Room,” makes a great addition to any party!

Smoked Pork Meatballs
2 lbs ground pork
2 TBS hot sauce adjust for taste
1 TBS BBQ Seasoning
2 TBS worcestershire sauce
2 TBS ketchup
1/3 cup finely diced yellow onion
1/4 cup finely diced poblano pepper
2 TBS panic bread crumbs
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup BBQ Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, add all ingredients except BBQ Sauce. Mix thoroughly, then roll into 1.5-2 oz balls (depending on your preference.) Spray a round cookie sheet with non-stick spray, then place balls on sheet. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Start smoker and heat to 250 degrees. Add cookie sheet to grill and cook for approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour. Check internal temperature of meatballs to ensure they have reached 165 degrees.

Remove meatballs from cookie sheet and place in a pan with at least a 1" lip. Add sauce and gently roll meatballs to coat. Return to smoker for 10 minutes to allow BBQ sauce to "set." Enjoy!

Photo Booth Props

No party is complete without a photo prop station. Purchase inexpensive photo props and an instant camera. You can also just allow guests to use their cell phones for photos, which will save you more money! These photos can be taken home as momentos of the party. Check out Amazon for great prop ideas.

Pop Up Garbage Cans for Easy Clean Up

Party City has fun decorative pop up garbage cans that are perfect for any party. Simply pop them open and set them in areas where party goers will be congregating.  These are perfect for outdoor as well.  This 3 piece set is available on Amazon and comes with (2) pop up garbages and one recycle pop up.
