If you are looking for a place to receive donations, looking to give donations out to people who need them, or are just curious as to how the whole process works, you have found yourself in the best place to learn. Here are a few things that you may or may not know about giving donations.

How are donations given out?

Basically, anyone who is physically or financially in a bad place is qualified for donations from many different places. This doesn't mean that you can't give donations to people directly, though. You are free to donate anything that you think would be more useful to someone else if you find someone who needs your items. There aren't any requirements for people who need donations. If you don't have the money for food and clothing, or if you need a car to drive to work but you don't have the money for it, you are qualified. Donation companies are there to help.

Where can you donate?

It's quite easy to find locations in your local area that allow donations. Sometimes this is in the form of a government building, a grocery store, a church, or even a storage container in a mall parking lot. For example, if you live in New Mexico, and you are looking to donate anything larger, you can find various furniture drop-off sites and places for vehicle donation in Santa Fe.

What can you donate?

As for this question, the answer is pretty limitless. There really is no end to what you can donate, as long as the item you are trying to donate is in good condition and can be useful to someone else. However, to specify things a bit for you, here is a list of things that you can donate with no trouble.

Clothing

Clothing items are almost always accepted in the form of donations. If you have clothes that are rarely or never worn and you aren't going to wear them, you can donate them to a local shelter, a church, or a storage bin in your area that accepts donations. These clothing items will be given to people who truly need them. You will get new space in your closet, and someone in need will get quality clothing to keep them warm in the winter.

Cars and trucks

As I mentioned earlier, it is possible to find a location in which you can donate a vehicle. While it is a bit more complicated to donate a vehicle, it is something that is possible to do. The process of donating a vehicle is different in all areas so check in with your local dealers to see what the requirements for you are. The car must be in working order, it can't be something that is deemed dangerous or salvaged, and it must pass an inspection.

Food

The restrictions on food donations are a bit more specific. You have to make sure that all of the food you are donating doesn't go bad within the month you are donating it. You also have to make sure that all of the food items you are donating are in cans, or unopened and sealed tightly if not in a can. Since food is a very risky thing to donate, each food item is carefully inspected to make sure that there isn't a break in the seal, and there isn't anything rotten in the item you are donating. Most of the food donations get dropped off at your local church.

Toys

Toys are always welcomed around the holidays. A lot of families can't afford food, let alone toys for their children for birthdays and Christmas. If you are looking to put a smile on a child's face this holiday season, local malls, grocery stores, and churches are often accepting toy donations. Make sure that the toys are visible, not wrapped in wrapping paper, and unopened. This is so the people giving out the donations know what the toy is and who to give it to when the time comes.

It doesn't take a lot to make someone's life a bit easier, or to put a smile on someone's face. If you are looking to truly make a difference, donating is the best and easiest place to start.
