5 Fun Outdoor Activities to Do This Fall

The cool, crisp Fall air is so enjoyable this time of year. Being outdoors and exploring fun activities is one of my favorite things to do in this beautiful weather.  Here are 5 fun outdoor activities you can enjoy with your family and friends.

Hiking

Explore the beautiful colors of the season by taking a long hike and enjoying the foliage.  The crisp, cool air is so wonderful for hiking and exploring everything nature has to offer. Many state parks offer different levels of trails, depending on your expertise. If it’s your first time, always choose a beginner trail to get a feel for it. Just remember these important tips,  to stay on your trail, don’t litter, be considerate of those around you, and be kind to nature. Don’t forget to pick up a few colorful leaves to press in a book or do a fun art project with when you get home!

Horseback Riding

I just finished watching a beautiful movie called Saving Sloane and it reminded me of the beauty of horses and how much I enjoyed horseback riding when I was younger.  I haven’t been riding in years and want to go again soon, Horses are such beautiful, majestic animals and horseback riding is such a wonderful way to connect with them.  Some people don’t realize what a workout it is to ride horses, even when only taking a casual stroll.  There are many places to enjoy horseback riding.  You can check out estates, farms and mountains in your area for some of the best scenic areas offering guided trails for you to explore.  This is such a wonderful way to spend the day with family and friends.

Hot Air Ballooning

Can you imagine anything more beautiful than soaring high above the earth in a thermal airship, seeing all of the beautiful colors of nature below you? This is the perfect time of year for hot air ballooning.  The weather is comfortable, the leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and nature is beautiful.  Most hot air balloon rides take about an hour, but for the entire experience it is usually a few hours between preparation and landing.  If you don’t want to ride in a hot air balloon, but enjoy their beauty, you can visit a balloon festival in your area. This is where hot air balloon owners gather throughout the year, to participate in different activities.  Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery. It’s magnificent to see!

Apple and Pumpkin Picking

Harvests are in full bloom at the Apple orchards and pumpkin farms, so this is the perfect time to go apple and pumpkin picking with family and friends.  Most orchards and farms offer flat fees or charge by the pound for what you pick, depending on where you go. This is a fun way to spend the day outdoors. Once you gather your apples, and you’re done picking pumpkins, you can head back to the farm store, and enjoy some fresh cider and hot apple cider donuts.  I can smell them cooking. They are so yummy!  Take your apples and pumpkins home and make some fun treats with the family like candied apples, pies and tarts.

Corn Maze

I’m sorry, but in my home it isn’t fall unless you explore a corn maze.  Corn mazes are a quintessential part of Fall.  If you haven’t experienced being lost in the midst of thousands of corn stalks, hysterically laughing with family and friends, you are missing out on one of the fun activities of the season.  Corn mazes come in all shapes and sizes. Some even have items and clues hidden inside for you to find.  Some are easy to navigate, while others can take hours to get through.  Whichever you choose, I guarantee it will be fun.  You may even learn a thing or two along your route! I recommend packing some snacks and drinks for your adventure.

I hope you enjoy these fun outdoor activities this Fall.
