Film Synopsis
Things go hilariously awry when Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler, receives a malfunctioning, digitally connected device that’s supposed to be his “best friend out of the box.” In this action-packed animated story set against the backdrop of the social media age, a boy and his robot discover the wonderful messiness of true friendship.
My review: This is by far one of my favorite movies of 2021. I loved the story of Barney and his B-Bot Best Friend in a Box. Everyone in school has a B-Bot except Barney, a shy boy who doesn’t make friends easily. When Barney’s birthday comes and he doesn’t receive his own B-Bot, he becomes disappointed. His dad feels bad and tries to get him a B-Bot but they’re on a 3 month back order. When dad sees some workers unloading B-Bots, he realizes a damaged one that is going to be destroyed and decides to get him at a discount for Barney. This is where the adventure begins as Barney and everyone else begins to realize that Barney’s B-Bot, Ron, is unlike all of the other B-Bots and he must teach him how to be a best friend. The people at Bubble World who created the B-Bot realize Ron’s gone wrong and try to capture him.
This movie is so well written with great comedy, a wonderful story of friendship, acceptance and caring.
