I love taking the ferry into the city and catching a good show and dinner. I went into Midtown with my husband to see Rock of Ages at New World Stages yesterday, compliments of Today Tix . We received center orchestra seats and the view was fantastic. I felt like we were part of the show!
When I first walked into the theater, I was mesmerized by the Neon lights and backdrop. It got my mind wondering what the show would be about. I was pretty excited to find out.
We were first greeted by the band that performed all of the music during the show. Next came the narrator (Lonny), my favorite person in the show, played by Matt Wolpe. His off colored tee shirts and humor had the audience roaring with laughter. But, honesty, everyone was great. When Stacee Jaxx (PJ Griffith) came on stage the crowd went wild. It was like being at a David Lee Roth concert in his hay day. His voice and movements were electrifying and he played his role tremendously.
The writer did an amazing job creating this masterpiece of a show, using musical scores from the songs that were performed. These songs were ones that I grew up with in the 80s from groups like Poison, Twisted Sister, White Snake, REO Speedwagon and more. I was having flashbacks to my youth! The actors did an amazing job and wow, could they sing. Their voices were incredible.
I highly recommend you go see Rock of Ages before its too late. If you love 80s music as much as I do, you definitely want to see this show!
