History
History is rich in Chicago. The name is derived from the Native American word checagou.  It all began in 1673, when Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet arrived.  The first non-indigenous habitant of Chicago was an African American from the Caribbean named Jean Baptiste Point du Sable.  He arrived in 1779 and built his home.  In the late 1800s, a large fire destroyed one third of the city, and left over 100,000 people homeless.  Luckily the railroad and factories were spared.  Since then, the city has grown by the millions.
