When looking for a positive role model in the sports world, Jesse Iwuji of NASCAR fits the bill in more ways than one.
I’ve been following and attending all forms of racing for over 35 years. In 2016, a particular driver caught my attention. His name is Jesse Iwuji. When I first learned of Jesse’s association with the Navy, and saw how he handled himself professionally on the track and in public, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for him and became an immediate fan. My brother served 30 plus years in the Navy, and I know the sacrifice, hard work and dedication that goes into serving.
Jesse attended the United States Naval Academy, where he competed on their football team as a free safety, and in their track and field program.
After graduating from the academy in 2010, He entered the United States Navy, and after serving seven years of active duty, he continues to serve our country in the Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Surface Warfare Officer.
As a sailor and driver, Iwuji has served as an ambassador for both the military and NASCAR communities. In addition to supporting military philanthropic groups, he is also involved in various NASCAR events supporting the armed forces and veterans.
As NASCAR’s only current driving veteran, Jesse Iwuji’s goals are to spread positivity, be competitive at the top NASCAR level, help honor service members, and help people change their lives.
Jesse is heavily involved in supporting a large array of charities, including Wins For Warriors, Team Rubicon, USO, Dolphin Foundation, Fisher House, Angelwood, Operation Homefront, Make a Wish Middle Tennessee, Our Fallen Hero Foundation.
