Pokémon Invites Fans to Illustrate an Official New Pokémon TCG Card

Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest to Open to US Trainers for the First Time

Bellevue, Wash.—September 15, 2021—Today, The Pokémon Company International and Creatures Inc. announced the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2022, a fan art contest inviting Trainers from the US and Japan to showcase their creative talents for a chance to be featured in an upcoming promo card for the globally popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).

Following two similar fan art contests successfully hosted in Japan, the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest 2022 will be open to US applicants for the first time. The announcement comes as the Pokémon brand continues its 25th anniversary celebrations and recognizes the many Trainers who have supported the Pokémon TCG throughout its long history.

“With this contest, Trainers will have the unique opportunity of having their Pokémon art be viewed all over the world,” said Barry Sams, vice president of the Pokémon TCG at The Pokémon Company International. “I continue to be in awe of the passion, creativity, and diversity of the Pokémon community, and expanding the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Contest to the US will offer exciting new perspectives of the Pokémon we know and love.”

Interested Trainers will be asked to capture “the daily life of Pokémon,” which is the official contest theme, and to choose from the following Pokémon as the focal point of their submission: Bulbasaur, Charizard, Pikachu, Arcanine, Galarian Rapidash, Scizor, Greninja, and Cramorant. Entries will be accepted beginning on October 13, 2021, through January 31, 2022, with winners announced in summer 2022.
