I recently received a very good and deep read called The Story of God and Us. In this book the author, Jonathan Murphy, speaks about God’s plan for the world.
The author starts at the beginning of the Bible, and takes us through the story of creation, where God created the earth and all the creatures which would inhabit it.
God would create human beings (Adam and Eve) in His image and likeness to reflect his Glory.
With this creation however, He gave Adam and Eve the freedom to follow him or to follow their own ways. God placed two trees in Eden, the tree of life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God allowed them to eat from anything except from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Satan represented as the snake or serpent, intentionally targets Adam and Eve as they reflected God’s glory best and were entrusted with the rule of the entire realm.
Satan tricked Eve and she and Adam ate from the banned tree and disobeyed God.
Because a just and holy God cannot ignore sin and be taken seriously, Adam and Eve are ousted from the Garden of Eden. The consequences of this ‘Fall’ results in a war within all humanity where sin and its effects become ever present in the universe.
The author shows however that God has not given up on people and still has a plan. God utilizes imperfect people throughout the Bible to carry out his mission of redemption for the world. Ultimately a specific human, the son of Eve will come and crush the snake/satan. Jesus Christ will vindicate his glory. By choosing faith in Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God will be restored and sin will be defeated..
This is a good read of God’s story and plan for our salvation and I like how the author does a good job of incorporating a mini Bible study to support his positions.
